Hurricanes First Week Recap
The end of the first full week of the Baltimore area high school basketball season saw some key performances by a number of Hurricanes girls who competed for our teams during the 2005 AAU season. Here’s a sampling, based mostly on double-figure scoring:
Dec. 8
Shannon Simpkins dropped in 13 and Lauren Leabhart 10 in Calvary Baptist’s loss to Clinton Christian, 46-33. Simpkins was a member of Hurricanes Rosemond 14s and Leabhart was with Hurricanes Watts 15s.
Dec. 7:
Sophomore Atiya Brown of Hurricanes Coughlan 14s scored 20 points in Loch Raven’s 53-30 victory over Kenwood.
Danielle Parker of Hurricanes Coughlan 14s scored 7 points and grabbed 6 rebounds as No. 1 St. Frances topped Seton Keough 64-51.
Jasmine Barksdale hit for 15 points as her Roland Park team topped IND 54-37. It was the second 15-point game this season for sophomore Barksdale, a member of Hurricanes Coughlan 14s.
Sophomore Brittany Coughlan of Hurricanes 14s Coughlan led her Atholton team’s scoring with 12 points in a 64-36 loss to River Hill.
Dec. 6:
Whitney Snoops from Hurricanes Cowgill 15s scored 17 points in Spalding’s 47-43 win over Severna Park. Kim Acton from the same Cowgill AAU team hit 11 for Severna Park. Snoops also scored 14 points Dec. 8 and Colleen Seeba 16 in Spalding’s 68-40 victory over IND. Seeba also was a member of Hurricanes Cowgill 15s.
Davonne Ross scored 12 points and Jessica Reagans 9 in Annapolis’ 81-15 victory over Overlea. Ross was a member of Hurricanes Watts 15s and Reagans was with Hurricanes Coughlan 14s.
Dec. 5:
Junior Abby Kalina scored 19 points and freshman Paige Greene added 11 in Bryn Mawr’s 47-45 overtime loss to Friends. Kallina played with Hurricanes Cowgill 15s and Greene is with Hurricanes Rosemond 14s.
